Will a pickleball court fit on a two car driveway?
Only the court lines fit: a driveway 20 to 24 ft wide and 64 ft long holds the 20 × 44 ft court, with 0 to 2 ft left beside the sidelines. USA Pickleball’s minimum playing surface of 60 × 30 ft leaves 5 ft beside each sideline, so a driveway this narrow plays below that minimum.
How wide is a two car driveway?
Landscaping Network puts a double car driveway at 20 to 24 ft wide. It adds that 20 ft lets two cars pass but is not quite enough to park side by side and open the doors, so 24 ft is the figure to use for parking. We worked both ends of the range.
Length varies a lot from house to house, and we found no sourced typical length, so we did not pick one for you. The example assumes 64 ft, the long side of USA Pickleball’s recommended footprint. Type your own length into the checker.
What the checker finds
| Driveway width | Court lines fit? | Behind each baseline | Beside each sideline | Short of the 52 × 26 ft footprint |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20 ft | Yes | 10 ft | 0 ft | 6 ft narrow |
| 24 ft | Yes | 10 ft | 2 ft | 2 ft narrow |
The court is 20 ft wide, so a 20 ft driveway has no run-off at all beside the sidelines, and a 24 ft driveway has 2 ft. Behind the baselines the 64 ft length leaves 10 ft, the same as the recommended footprint.
How that compares with the rulebook
USA Pickleball recommends 64 × 34 ft for new construction. That leaves 10 ft behind each baseline and 7 ft beside each sideline. Its minimum is 60 × 30 ft, which leaves 8 ft behind and 5 ft beside.
A 24 ft driveway is 3 ft short of the 5 ft minimum beside the sidelines, and a 20 ft driveway is 5 ft short. The checker also tests a 52 × 26 ft “tight backyard” footprint. That size is our own and is not an official standard, and even it needs 26 ft of width, which neither driveway has.
If you go ahead
Widening the pad is the only way to reach the minimum: a driveway needs to be at least 30 ft wide for the minimum, and 34 ft for the recommended size, which is 10 ft more than a 24 ft driveway.
If you only want to play on the driveway you have, coating it costs the least per square foot of the surfaces the checker prices. Angi’s tennis-court resurfacing guide gives $1.50 to $4 per square foot for professionally applied acrylic coating, before cleaning and crack repair. On a 24 × 64 ft driveway, 1,536 square feet, that is $2,300 to $6,100. A portable net can be stored when the cars need the space.

We left out driveway length, slope, drainage and local rules. We found no sourced typical length, and slope and drainage change from site to site, so check them before you build. The 64 ft length is an assumption we chose, not a measurement of any driveway.
